CAN YOU TAKE CORRECTION?…OR, ARE YOU TOO PROUD?

Can you be told you are wrong?

Hard question, isn’t it?

We all face the danger of being unteachable.

We don’t like to be told we’re on the wrong course or the decision we made was not the right one.

God puts people necessarily into our lives for the purpose of bringing correction.

We are not qualified or equipped to be the sole arbiter of our course and direction.

We all need input, advice, rebuke, and correction.

This is part of the intent of preaching:

2 Timothy 4:2

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, REBUKE, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching.”

The word “rebuke” means to admonish, charge sharply, or censure severely.

THAT IS ONE OF OUR GREATEST NEEDS.

And, it’s something we won’t do to ourselves…we all need another pair of eyes on our business.

This is for our good to help us along the way and secure our position in the will of God.

It is one of the ways God expresses His love for us…He loves us too much to allow us to go down a wrong road without trying to correct our course:

Proverbs 3:11–12

“My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction; For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.”

It is so easy to go astray. There are a lot of distractions and diversions, and we are not going to avoid them without a word from an outside source.

To rebuke is an act of love.

You must position yourself to be on the receiving end of correction.

My prayer is that you have someone around your life who loves you enough to correct you, and I pray that you’re not too proud to receive the rebukes that are necessary from time to time.

Proverbs 24:6

“For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.”

Correction is one of the ways that we learn; unfortunately, it is something we so readily push back on because we don’t like it.

Proverbs 15:32

“He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, but he who heeds rebuke gets understanding.”

Understanding, knowledge, and wisdom are acquired through correction, and sometimes it’s the only way to learn.

We should all examine our hearts…and make sure your pride doesn’t get in the way of something that is so necessary.

Embrace the necessary humility and always be open to correction, as God is trying to help you navigate life successfully.
