From Little Faith to Great Faith
We should all be striving for great faith to be realized in our lives. It’s possible.
Faith is fluid. Our faith can be very weak and therefore ineffective, or it can be strong and even great so that mountains move. That should be what we are all striving for.
So let’s examine the state of our faith.
There’s a storm, and it’s terrifying—like nothing we’ve ever seen before. We’re in a crisis, and we don’t know where to turn or what to do. We’re scared and fearful.
Where is our faith then?
Sometimes it can be reduced to being very small. Jesus called it having “little faith.”
Scripture Focus
Matthew 8:23-27
“Now when Jesus got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We are perishing!’ But He said to them, ‘Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?’ Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, ‘Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?’”
Storms happen to us all in life, and we can easily find ourselves in such a place.
If our faith is weak—or as Jesus said, “little”—we’re in trouble. Fear and doubt grip us, and we can feel isolated and alone in the midst of the storm.
This passage contains a powerful lesson for us all.
Jesus is in the boat with us in the midst of whatever storm we may be going through. He is able to calm the wind and settle the waves.
I believe He expects us to exhibit not little faith, but great faith.
Great faith can be ours.
Even if your faith is little and you are in the midst of a storm, it can grow into great faith.
You should pray about that right now.
Say to the Lord:
“I believe, I believe, I believe. I trust You. You know every situation and circumstance, and You are able to help me as You see fit. Thank You, Jesus!”
Our faith needs to be challenged—that’s the only way it can grow.
Today’s Challenge
No matter what storm you may be facing today, choose to trust Jesus.
Remember that He is in the boat with you. Ask Him to strengthen your faith and help it grow from little faith to great faith.
Your faith can be stronger today than it was yesterday, and you can pray to make that happen.
