IS THERE REALLY SUCH A THING AS THE PERFECT WILL OF GOD? IN A WORD, YES! — Part 11c
We are all challenged to give our all in service to Jesus Christ…nothing less.
What is going to be most helpful in our effort?
The Scripture tells us:
Romans 12:2
“And do not be CONFORMED TO this world, but be TRANSFORMED BY the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
It’s impossible to give God your best when you are conformed to this world.
When we allow its ways and systems to occupy space in our lives.
We are different.
Jesus said:
John 17:14
“…they (us) are not of this world, as I (Jesus) am not of this world…”
We are in the world…we are not of the world.
We don’t live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
“…do not be conformed to this world” is the admonition if we are going to be free to “…prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
We are not entangled and attached to this present world and its evil, sinful, rebellious, and selfish ways.
The “world” refers to the secular system, cultural pressures, and values driven by selfishness, status, materialism, and rebellion against God.
Conformity means passively letting external pressures squeeze your identity and behavior into society’s mold.
You have to fight against that.
The pressure can be enormous, but we follow the edict:
“Do not be conformed to this world…”
That’s something we need to pay attention to and guard against.
If we do that, we then can experience the necessary transformation that comes by the Holy Spirit, renewing our minds so that we think with the mind of Christ.
2 Corinthians 3:18
“And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.”
This change happens from the inside out, starting in the mind, the control center of thoughts, values, and decisions.
It occurs through daily immersion in God’s Word, prayer, and the work of the Holy Spirit rather than a one-time human effort.
It’s a day-by-day process.
Then, when your mind changes to match God’s truth, you stop guessing or fighting what God wants.
You just know.
You begin to clearly recognize and genuinely desire what is good, pleasing, and perfect.
That is what I’m striving for, and so too can and should you…the perfect will of God.
A life characterized by obedience and the power of the Holy Spirit daily transforming us into the image of Jesus Christ.
