The March to Great Faith
Faith should be growing in us at all times.
Faith is fluid, never stagnant.
Your faith will always be challenged to grow to ever greater heights.
Perhaps by now, you should be described as having great faith.
Is that the case?
This should be examined.
All too often, it is little faith that we are expressing. We struggle to believe God in the face of current challenges. Should you be trusting God instead of panicking or allowing fear to gain a foothold?
Jesus rebuked His disciples for having little faith.
Being with Jesus and witnessing His miracles should have resulted in growing faith. Yet when they faced a storm, they became fearful.
Scripture Focus
Matthew 8:26
“But He said to them, ‘Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?’ Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.”
What do we do in the midst of our storms, when circumstances seem beyond our control?
Our response should be trust—confidence in our God—and a level of faith that matches and overcomes the storm we are facing.
On another occasion, a boy in need of healing was brought to the disciples, but they lacked the faith to pray for him and see him healed.
Little faith can grow into great faith.
That process should be taking place in every one of us.
Faith to move mountains.
Faith to remove the obstacles in our path.
Faith to slay the giants that harass and intimidate us.
An ever-growing faith that enables us to live in victory.
The two occasions where Jesus specifically commended people for having great faith are especially noteworthy. Both individuals were Gentiles, not Jews, yet they believed and received the highest commendation from Jesus.
The first was the Roman centurion, who said to Jesus:
“Say the word and my servant will be healed.”
Matthew 8:10
“When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!’”
The centurion believed Jesus could perform a miracle simply by speaking the word.
Can we not do the same?
Of course we can.
The second example was the woman who pleaded with Jesus to deliver her daughter, who was severely demon-possessed.
She believed, and Jesus answered her faith.
Matthew 15:28
“Then Jesus answered and said to her, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.’ And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”
Both of these individuals demonstrated complete confidence in the power and authority of Jesus Christ.
Their faith was rewarded.
Today’s Challenge
Take time today to honestly examine your faith.
Is it little, great, or somewhere in between?
Whatever your answer, don’t remain where you are.
Commit yourself to continue the march toward great faith.
Trust God more deeply, believe His promises more fully, and allow every challenge you face to become another opportunity for your faith to grow.
Great faith is not reserved for a select few.
It is the goal toward which every believer should be moving.
