## Thoughts to Help With Everyday Life

We all have them: **regrets**. But the real question is, where do they belong in our lives?

Should they be remembered and recalled? Should we really be meditating on them and obsessing over them as we all too often do? Should we allow a prominent place for the memory of past sin and failure in our hearts and minds?

Regret can be a source of torment and guilt if we don’t resolve it, and it has its own language:

* *“Why did I fail?”*

* *“Why did I make such a catastrophically bad decision?”*

* *“I wish it never happened. Why did it?”*

Speaking that language is not healthy, and it does no good. It diminishes our peace of mind, joy, and victory.

### Cast Into the Depths

**YOU ARE FORGIVEN!**

Past sin and failure belong in the depths of the sea, never to be recalled or remembered. As the prophet Micah declared:

> *“He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.”* — **[Micah 7:19]**

The consequences of that sin and all our past mistakes have been buried under the weight of the cross. When Jesus rose from the dead, He destroyed the works of darkness that once defined us. **You are truly free.**

I’ve known many believers—some long-term believers—who are still tormented and feel condemned over the past. But scripture tells us:

> *“Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior].”* — **[Romans 8:1, AMP]**

### Guardrails, Not Guilt

Past failure should not be a source of current guilt, though it can serve as a healthy reminder and a lesson learned. We now know which way not to go ever again. The past can provide the spiritual guardrails that keep us on the ‘narrow road’ that life requires us to travel on.

Take time today, in prayer, to cover your past in the blood of Jesus. Let the poisonous residue of past sin, along with your mistakes and errors in judgment, be cleansed once and for all.

Don’t allow your regrets to linger and become a source of torment. You are free from the past—truly free.

> *“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”* — **[2 Corinthians 5:17]**
