WE NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER FIND THE WILL OF GOD FOR OUR LIVES
Part 6
God never intended us to navigate life alone. It would be very unwise to try to do so, and it would invariably end in disaster.
In ancient times, people utilized the stars to navigate. Later, various kinds of instruments were invented, like the compass and the sextant, which helped with navigation.
As already pointed out, we have God’s Word, the greatest instrument available to us to show us the way.
Another asset we have in plotting our course in life is each other.
Sometimes you need another pair of eyes on your life and the decisions you’re making—someone who can see what you don’t. You could be navigating your way toward danger. You don’t see it, but someone else does.
The big question is:
Do you have people around you who love you and care enough about you to point out a need in your life for a course correction?
The decision you made and the direction you’re headed could be fraught with unforeseen problems.
Proverbs 14:12 (AMP)
“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but its end is the way of death.”
There’s a way that “seems right” and “appears straight”—except it isn’t. But we don’t see it. Someone else needs to see it and point it out to us.
When we are plotting our course in life and making decisions that are going to influence and determine our future, we need to use caution. But sometimes caution goes out the window.
We’re plunging forward, invested in our course, and too often we shut out any voice that makes an effort to correct us.
When it comes to the decisions we make, I’m talking about the major ones—like choosing a career path, who to marry, what job to pursue, or making a major purchase—the best advice is:
DON’T DO THAT ALONE.
There’s wisdom in seeking the help, counsel, and advice of others. We can avoid a lot of trouble if we do.
Proverbs 24:6
“For by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in an abundance of [wise] counselors, there is victory and safety.”
He’s using the waging of war as a metaphor. Waging war is a complex exercise. So too is life, and we need the safe place that the wisdom of others can provide.
Proverbs 12:15
“The way of the [arrogant] fool [who rejects God’s wisdom] is right in his own eyes, but a wise and prudent man is he who listens to counsel.”
There have been times in my own life when I have been very foolish, thinking a course was correct when it clearly wasn’t.
Thank You, Lord, that my foolishness was short-lived because I have those around me who help me navigate.
Perhaps you should examine this matter.
You are making—or have made—decisions that are going to wield a lot of influence on your future.
Why don’t you put those decisions to the test by seeking the help of others?
