WE NEED TO LEARN A LOT OF THINGS…THERE’S A LOT WE DON’T KNOW, THAT’S OBVIOUS — Part 1

We can’t know everything.

Let’s narrow this down from the general, there’s a lot we don’t know that we need to learn about…to one thing that should be primary that we need to learn…and the learning will never stop.

David captures something vital in the following verse.

Remember, he’s king…he’s come a long way, he knows a lot…but he acknowledges an area where he falls short and his education needs to continue.

Psalms 143:10

“TEACH ME TO DO YOUR WILL,

For You are my God;

Your Spirit is good.

Lead me in the land of uprightness.”

Isn’t that a daily challenge?

To learn to do God’s will every day.

The truth is, we don’t always succeed.

We can and do fall short.

We stumble, we fall, we make decisions that don’t comport with what God wants…that’s all of us some of the time.

Hence: “Teach me to do Your will…”

First of all, we need to humble ourselves and acknowledge, we don’t know at all times how to do the will of God…therefore, “teach me.”

There’s nothing wrong with saying, “I don’t know.”

Secondly, we all have a very powerful self-will that we allow to override what God wants.

Our own flesh and carnal nature work against obedience, and that is true with all of us.

We have to “learn” to win that battle.

Thirdly…we have to ask:

God, what do You want?

We ask in prayer, we consult God’s Word…what does His Word say?

We seek advice and counsel.

Someone else may be able to help us discern God’s will.

The point is, we can’t just stumble through life doing as we please.

Life really is about the serious business of discovering and doing the will of God.

That’s what I want more than anything.

Jesus said:

“I do always those things that please the Father…”

(John 8:29)

No easy task.

In every situation and circumstance, with every decision…doing what pleases God.

That is something we have to learn to do.

Today my prayer is the above Scripture:

“You are my God, I declare You as my Lord…teach me TODAY to do Your will and LEAD me in the way that I should go.”

I have a sense that today and every day I can learn a little bit more about doing the will of God…that’s what I want the Lord to teach me.
