Where Have You Placed Your Mind?
You have to place your mind somewhere.
That is something we all do, and sometimes we don’t always make the best choices about where we place it.
You can choose to dwell in a dark, discouraging, and demoralizing place.
Unfortunately, many people do.
As a result, they find themselves overwhelmed with discouragement, hopelessness, and despair.
We should not be surprised when we end up there if we have chosen to continually meditate on those kinds of thoughts.
The choices we make about our thought life have a profound impact on our spiritual and emotional well-being.
Consider what God promises:
Scripture Focus
Isaiah 26:3-4 (AMP)
“You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation]. Trust confidently in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock.”
Another translation says:
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.”
That means we have a choice.
We all decide what we will think about.
Our thoughts will take us somewhere—for good or for bad.
Where have your thoughts been taking you?
The Bible gives us clear direction:
Colossians 3:2 (AMP)
“Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].”
This is something we must intentionally choose to do.
When we deliberately fix our minds on God, His promises, and His eternal purposes, He fills our hearts with peace and stability.
Today’s Challenge
Take inventory of your thought life today.
Where have you been placing your mind?
If your thoughts have been consumed with fear, discouragement, or temporary concerns, choose instead to set your mind on the Lord.
As you focus on Him and trust in His promises, He will give you His perfect peace.
Get a grip on how you think—and let your thoughts lead you closer to God.
