Your Presence in Church Matters
Primary Scripture: [Hebrews 10:25]
Your presence in church matters. It just does.
When you are part of a local congregation, in relationship, involved in ministry, and you consider yourself a member, your absence leaves a hole. The church is not just a place we attend casually. It is the Body of Christ, and every part matters.
It would be like one of the functions of your body not showing up to do its part, or a part of your car that is not working properly. Something is missing. Something is affected. And whether people realize it or not, the church feels the absence of those who should be there.
Some people do not like to think of the church this way because of their casual approach to church attendance. But the Word of God calls us to something higher.
[Hebrews 10:25] says, “…not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching.”
When Renee and I were first saved, one of the best decisions we ever made was to be in every service. I arranged my job and work schedule around the services of our church. We both considered it vital for our spiritual health. If we missed, we felt like we were missing something significant.
If your pastor is hearing from heaven, preaching an anointed word that Jesus has inspired him to preach, then taking a casual approach to church means you may miss something vital. What is more important in your schedule than assembling together with other believers to hear from God?
Church attendance is not only about what you receive. It is also about what you give. You never know who you might encourage, pray with, or minister to in some way. We receive and we give.
Jesus Himself depended on the members of the church being faithful. He inspired John, while he was a prisoner on the isle of Patmos, to write letters that Jesus dictated to him and send them to the seven churches listed in the Book of Revelation. Those letters were to be read in the assembly.
If someone decided something else was more important, they would have missed what Jesus was saying to their church.
If you love Jesus, you will love His Church, with all of her flaws, faults, and shortcomings.
Key Takeaway
Your presence in church matters because God uses the assembly to strengthen you, speak to you, and use you to encourage others.
