WEATHERING THE STORM
We’ve heard this all our lives…and it’s appropriate.
It simply means that storms are going to come and you have to do whatever it takes to get through it, survive the storm with your spiritual integrity remaining in place and even flourishing in the midst of the storms you endure in life.
There are two kinds of storms.
There are ones that are unnecessary that we create. These obviously can and should be avoided.
In my recent reading of the book of Jonah, this Scripture caught my attention.
Jonah 1:12
And he said to them, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. For I know that THIS GREAT TEMPEST IS BECAUSE OF ME.”
Jonah knew this storm was caused by his own disobedience.
We can do the same.
Unwise decisions, acting in ways that are outside the boundaries of obedience to God and His Word, and the rash actions we take when things may not be going our way can all lead to storms that we have created.
The other kind of storms simply happen.
It’s the reality of life.
From the storms that must come, the ones we have to weather, GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND PLACE OF SAFETY.
Isaiah 4:6
“And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.”
And eventually…
Psalms 107:29
“He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.”
Don’t let the storm discourage or demoralize you.
You may be in the midst of one right now, and it can be frightening…don’t allow fear to define you in the midst of the storm.
Jesus Christ is our confidence, and as a matter of fact, right now He is looking to help you and strengthen you so that your testimony of Holy Ghost strength and power in the midst of the storm can be of help to others.
2 Chronicles 16:9
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him…”
WE CAN WEATHER ANY STORM…BECAUSE OUR GOD IS GREATER!
