WE NEED TO LEARN A LOT OF THINGS…THERE’S A LOT WE DON’T KNOW, THAT’S OBVIOUS — Part 2
What is the most important feature of our lives?
There may be a few things that can be said here, what I want to focus on is the will of God.
Life is about discovering what God wants for us and then going about, the sometimes hard business of doing it.
It’s not always easy and it is challenging to discover.
If you want to know God’s will? It is clearly stated in His Word.
That’s where we should all begin.
The Word of God gives us the ability to measure our lives and see if they measure up to doing what God wants for us.
He wants what is best…He has a plan and a purpose.
We are not going to discover that passively.
It has to be a proactive effort on our part.
There’s a lot to overcome, there are many obstacles and battles that we have to fight in order to stay on the very narrow path of His will for our lives.
Today, my focus is Jesus and His agony in the garden as He is wrestling with the will of His Heavenly Father.
Of course, it’s the eve of His crucifixion.
He knows what that is going to entail.
It was in the Garden of Gethsemane that He surrendered to the will of God and secured our salvation.
Try to imagine what that must have been like for Him.
He’s already emotionally and spiritually suffering for what is about to come to pass.
He’s agonizing in the most profound way.
He finds a place to make an altar and pray.
Matthew 26:39, 42
“He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but AS YOU WILL.’…
Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, YOUR WILL BE DONE.’”
Jesus is facing the most challenging phase of His life…
He is doing it as a man, therefore He will feel the full weight of rejection, pain, and suffering.
He is also the Son of God and will rise again, but to get there, THE CROSS FIRST.
“As You will…Your will be done…”
He says it once, then reaffirms it a second time.
It’s about surrender…
Surrendering our will, our way…for His will.
Though we are not facing the same as Jesus, the will of God requires the same level of surrender.
I wonder today if there are not some areas of my life, your life, that are yet to be surrendered to the will of God.
That’s what we should be examining.
Are there pockets of disobedience, areas of stubbornness?
Perhaps today, like Jesus did two thousand years ago…we need to make an altar of surrender and make the ultimate decision to do God’s will.
That’s something for you to think about, consider, and pray about…
Just as Jesus did.
