We Are Going to Need Perseverance if We Are Going to Succeed in Accomplishing God’s Perfect Will for Our Lives — Part 2

He wanted to quit in the worst possible way…but, he didn’t!

That serves as a powerful example to us all.

Wanting to quit is one thing, actually quitting is another.

This describes dramatic moments in every life that we all face.

After years of struggle, Jeremiah wanted to quit on his ministry…a very powerful and necessary ministry that God had called him to when he was a teenager.

I quit!

That’s it!

I’ve had enough…I can walk away from all this hardship and rejection and be done with it.

Oh yes! I can relate to that, to those feelings.

They are strong, they are emotionally driven.

Quitting gives us hope of escape, but you know what, you really can’t escape from God’s calling and will for your life.

If you manage to pull it off…there will be no satisfaction where you are heading.

Jeremiah 20:8b–9

“…the word of the LORD was made to me A reproach and a derision daily. Then I said, ‘I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.’ But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.”

I QUIT!…but, I CAN’T QUIT!

I love this because it speaks so much to all of us at times.

King David, after having been betrayed by his trusted advisor, counsellor, and friend, longed for an escape hatch.

“I’ve gotta get away…I’m quitting!” he thought.

Psalms 55:6–8

“So I said, ‘Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. Indeed, I would wander far off, And remain in the wilderness. I would hasten my escape From the windy storm and tempest.’”

Really!?

You think that’s going to solve all your problems…of course it wouldn’t have, and that was only a momentary meltdown, and he recovered and got back to the business that God had called him to.

So what are you thinking?

Quitting on a marriage, a friendship, a calling, a church…

What is it that you are thinking of quitting on?

Our Christian faith and God’s Word teach us to stay put in the face of problems and challenges, and He gives us the wisdom and the strength to bring resolution so that we can continue.

Like Jeremiah, like David, like Jesus Himself, we can continue even though it’s hard, and it’s in the framework of that that we grow and become more like Jesus Himself.

Perseverance, supernatural perseverance, is what we need, and the strength to persevere is readily available.

All you have to do is ask.
