There Is More — Part 4: Seeing Jesus and Serving Him Forever
There is more—so much more—for us to experience as a result of our life in Christ.
What will the experience of heaven actually be like?
We know about the streets of gold and many of the descriptions Scripture gives us, but what will it truly be like to be there? What will we experience throughout eternity?
Let’s consider.
We will see Jesus.
We will be able to approach Him, speak with Him, and enjoy His presence without fear.
All of Jesus…all the time.
Sin and disobedience are what make us fearful to approach God and to be seen by Him.
That will never again stand between you and your relationship with God.
His eyes will look completely through you.
He will know everything about you, and you will be fully aware of that reality.
Yet you will not be afraid because you will have nothing to hide and no guilt to carry.
Scripture Focus
1 John 3:2-3
“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”
We will see Him and know Him in a way that is impossible for us now.
The Amplified Bible expresses it this way:
“Beloved, we are [even here and now] children of God, and it is not yet made clear what we will be [after His coming]. We know that when He comes and is revealed, we will [as His children] be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is [in all His glory].”
We will see Jesus Christ in all His heavenly glory.
Imagine having a personal audience with Jesus Himself.
That is the privilege heaven will provide.
Heaven will also include the most satisfying work and purpose we could ever imagine.
Work was part of God’s perfect design even before sin entered the world.
Scripture Focus
Genesis 1:27-28
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion…’”
Adam was given meaningful work.
What will our occupation be in heaven?
Scripture Focus
Revelation 22:3
“And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.”
The word serve speaks of performing sacred service for a king.
King Jesus will entrust His people with meaningful responsibilities throughout eternity.
And there is more.
Scripture Focus
Revelation 22:5
“There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”
To reign is to govern, to exercise kingly authority, and to share in His rule.
For all eternity we will be engaged in the most fulfilling purpose imaginable as we serve and reign with Christ forever.
What an incredible future God has prepared for His people.
May that future inspire us to protect the integrity of our spiritual lives and to keep Jesus first in everything we do.
Tomorrow, we’ll conclude this series with one final thought about what awaits us in heaven.
Today’s Challenge
Live today with eternity in view.
Protect your walk with Christ.
Keep your heart pure, your priorities centered on Him, and your hope fixed on the day when you will see Jesus face to face.
Let the promise of serving and reigning with Him forever shape the way you live today.
